About Me

Hello!  My name is Sara Gurath. I am an educator and the founder of BreakThrough Educational Consulting. My passion is to provide safety and connection for each learner and come alongside them on their unique journey.

After 29 years of founding three microschools, teaching, and leading, I am dedicating this new chapter to meeting each child and family exactly where they are and helping them take the next step. I’ve seen so many learners feel defeated, marginalized, and even traumatized by their educational experience. These humans need and deserve a way to learn and flourish. And so BreakThrough was born. I want to ask: What is the goal? What is the next doable step? And how can we, the adults in this learner’s life, provide safety and connection?

Along with a degree in elementary education, I have trainings in dyslexia (including Orton-Gillingham-influenced reading and spelling), autism, authentic academic discourse, reading and writing, inquiry-based history teaching, restorative justice, trauma-informed care, and love and logic. Much of my teaching career has been spent teaching and learning about neurodivergent students.

When I’m not teaching, coaching, or consulting, you might find me playing piano, doing a puzzle, at the CrossFit gym, or curled up with my coffee and a good book.
